Scoliosis Pilates

Certified and Crafted

Scoliosis Pilates is a specific exercise form designed to improve the lives of those living with scoliosis. Scoliosis, by definition, is a sideways curvature of the spine with or without rotation. Severe cases can lead to chronic pain, lung and heart damage, and a noticeable change in appearance which can result in self-consciousness. Those who regularly perform scoliosis specific exercises frequently improve their vital capacity, strength and function – life’s activities become easier. With Rebel Moves Scoliosis Pilates you can work on creating stronger and more mobile spine function. Most, but not all, participants can expect to see increased mobility, reduced pain, increased vital capacity (breathing function), increased strength and increased self-esteem. You will be guided in understanding how to make corrections towards alignment based on your unique scoliosis and practice under supervision. Also, you will receive a practice schedule for at home so that you can work on your improvement daily. Regular practice in the studio will help you progress and support your success.

Rebel Moves Scoliosis Pilates is instructed by the owner of Rebel Moves Pilates, Martina Villinger. Martina is a certified Scolio Pilates ™ Practitioner and has had personal success with this form of Pilates in her life.  Scolio Pilates ™ is a three-dimensional, scoliosis specific exercise created for the purpose of managing scoliosis in the Pilates Studio as well as the Physical Therapy Clinic. Scolio Pilates ™ is based on elongation, optimized breathing and movement of the spine towards neutral. One of the few certified practitioners in North Carolina, Martina offers Scolio Pilates ™ based on cutting edge research on scoliosis.

In order for us to best help you with your scoliosis, we do require a recent X-ray imaging from the base of your skull to the base of your spine. Our process recommends a continuous program in which we support you living well with scoliosis. Because of the nature of the situation we offer an initial assessment to first learn about you and your body. This allows us to determine the best path forward and craft the Scoliosis Pilates Session necessary for your specific needs. Contact us with any questions or book an assessment today.
